Constitutionalists: Keep On Shining the Light!

 David Alan Black

Despite admitting their blunders in leading us into an unnecessary war, our masters are now planning to conscript our sons and daughters to perpetuate their madness. You can be sure that this issue will be hit hard and hit over and over again by constitutionalists, taking advantage of the ever-widening cracks in the Bush administration.

But will it be enough to defeat the neocons? Sometimes I have a spell of wishing that I could do signs and wonders just as the early apostles did. After all, this is the age of Hollywood, and men crowd to the spectacular. But I have come to realize that the most important thing we can do is to humbly and faithfully bear witness to Christ and continue to quietly yet defiantly wave our banner, “No King But Jesus!”

The early church started out in a flurry of miracles, which served a purpose for a while. Perhaps there ought to be more of them today. But the truth is that God always places highest value, not on the spectacular, but on plain faithfulness that speaks and lives the truth even when no one else seems to be listening. The greatest work of the church is not the occasional miracle but the day-in and day-out testimony of Christian living in the midst of mediocre and monotonous times.

Jesus said, “My sheep hear My voice” (John 10:27). Rest assured: Those who are spiritually alive will hear Him when He speaks. Each day, when I update Dave Black Online, I remember: “This is the day that the Lord has made” and He is with us “all the days.” His grace is always sufficient.

Meanwhile, let us beware of cheap optimism under religious or political auspices. In the end, the important thing is not to “win” but to be on the right side, however dark the times, and to have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness but rather to expose, reprove, and turn the light of truth on them (Eph 5:11).

As Mark Dankof, Devvy Kidd, Chuck Baldwin, Paul Proctor, Michael Peroutka, Debbie O’Hara, Berit Kjos, David Brownlow, Debbie Hopper, and a host of others are proving day after day, the best way to overcome the sheer insanity of our national hubris—far better and more effective than denunciation—is by shining the light of the Christian testimony that shows things up for what they are.
